Having just come back from Emerald City Comic Con I challenged myself to find the cons closest to me. Why? Because my cousin seems to have no shortage of conventions in her area. She lives within about 40 minutes of Seattle so it makes sense.
Living in Oregon I feel like there aren’t that many, or at least not as many as I thought were in Washington or California.
So what’s coming up in the last 9 months of 2019 that are scheduled so far. I’ve found that some events that I expected to be posted weren’t yet. So those I’ve listed as TBA.
Portland Area
This is a pretty small con only in it’s 3rd year this year. It focuses on anime and is hosted at the Portland Community College Southeast Campus. It’s free to the public and offers panels, cosplay contests, exhibitors, reading/media room, and a fundraiser for the OSHU Doernbecher children’s hospital.
This event is a craft expo where exhibitors who create nerdy and fandom inspired crafts come and celebrate their craft. Here are some YouTube videos from last years event!
This is a different sort of event in it’s first year that is locally produced and focuses on self-published/small press comics and games. It has no mainstream TV guests and allows no exhibitors that produce unlicensed merchandise. They offer panels, RPG tabletop demos, and workshops.
This is “Portland’s premier pop-culture event, Rose City Comic Con is produced locally with a focus on creating a fun and friendly event for everyone!” This is the biggest convention of it’s kind that I could find in Oregon, and it boasts come big names this year as guest celebrities including Will Wheaton, Tim Curry, Bonnie Wright, and Lou Ferrigno have already signed on to appear. OryCon is Oregon’s premier, fan run, annual science fiction/fantasy convention held in Portland since 1979. We are a 100% volunteer based production of Oregon Science Fiction Conventions, Inc. This year this fan con is held at the Red Lion Inn at Jantzsen Beach.
This event is all about Japanese pop culture and is now at the Oregon Convention Center! Along with events that focus on anime, cosplay, fan panels and karaoke, the event includes guests of honor such as David Wald, Luci Christian, and Brina Palencia of My Hero Academia slated for the 2019 event.

This Portland original nerdy craft fair and is hosted by PDX Guild of Geeks. It looks to be a smaller event and is free to the public!
Willamette Valley to Southern Oregon
This is a pretty small con in it’s 5th year being held at the Jackson County Library in Medford. In the last couple of years it has teamed up with Rogue Community College and last year it boasted 20,000 attendees in a two day period. The programming includes cosplay, workshops, and vendors. This seems like a pretty new con! In it’s second year it boasts guest such as Gil Gerard, Felix Silla, Alan Palmer, and Rajia Baroudi. This pop culture convention is only a one day event but has programming that includes cosplay contests, workshop panels, meet and greets, a vendor hall, and video game free play. Check out this YouTube video from last years event.
This Con focuses on Japanese pop culture, specifically anime, manga and Tokusatsu. It has video game activities, panels, vendors and guests such as Morgan Berry, Bryn Appril, and Eddie Frierson.

Eugene Comic Con – 2019 CANCELLED back in 2020
This is Eugene’s one and only Comic Con event. Next year will be it’s 5th year. Last year it hosted guests such as Booker T, Simone Missick and Keith Tucker. It’s still a pretty small con in respect to other ones in Oregon but it grows every year and has a pretty good following. I went last year and it was super fun! Check out the vlog I made!
